About the property
The Thirty-Sixth is a three-story walk-up at 30-72 36th St in Astoria, built in 1931 and home to six apartments. It is a small building with a live-in superintendent, private storage cages for residents and smart package lockers for deliveries. Cats and dogs are welcome.
The layout is simple and even: each floor has one two-bedroom facing east and one one-bedroom facing west. The two-bedrooms run 830 to 850 square feet and the one-bedrooms 545 to 590. Every home keeps its prewar character, with original hardwood floors, exposed brick, tall windows and a subway-tile bath, and every kitchen has a gas range and dishwasher. Several apartments also have a decorative fireplace mantel. Astoria surrounds the building with Greek tavernas on Ditmars Boulevard, Astoria Park and its pool beneath the Hell Gate Bridge, and a long list of beer gardens and bakeries. Titan Foods is an 8-minute walk, Al-Sham Sweets & Pastries is 9 minutes, and The Bonnie is 10 minutes away. The Astoria Blvd station on the N/W is a 3-minute walk, the 30 Av stop is about 10 minutes, and the NYC Ferry at Astoria is also within reach.

Solid building with a hands-on super. The kitchen is compact but the gas range and dishwasher make it work. Astoria Park is a nice walk on weekends.

Top-floor two-bedroom and I couldn't be happier. Only two flights of stairs, nobody above us, and the mantel is the centerpiece of our living room. Package lockers make deliveries painless.

Lovely prewar apartment and a good building overall. Some of the original windows are a bit drafty in deep winter, which is the charm and the cost of an older place. Maintenance came by when I asked.

Three minutes to the train and a short walk to Titan Foods. My cat loves the sunny west windows in the afternoon. Leasing was clear and they answered every question I had.

Good-sized two-bedroom with nice morning light. The storage cage downstairs fits our bikes and suitcases. No laundry in the building is a downside, but the laundromat routine is easy enough.

I fell for the fireplace mantel in my one-bedroom on the first visit. The brick and the old floors make it feel like a real home. With only six apartments, everyone is friendly and the super keeps things in great shape.
