About the property
Starr Street Lofts occupies a former knitting mill at 93 Starr St in Bushwick, Brooklyn. Built in 1922, the three-story walk-up now holds just six apartments, so the building feels more like a shared address than a complex.
A live-in superintendent, smart package lockers, a laundry room and private storage cages cover the practical side, and the building is pet-friendly. The homes come in two layouts: a One Bedroom Flex with a built-in home office nook, and a Two Bedroom with ceiling fans and east-facing windows. Every apartment has the same renovated modern finish, with wide-plank white oak floors, quartz counters, stainless appliances, a glass-enclosed shower and recessed lighting. Two units per floor means each home has a clear orientation, east for the two-bedrooms and west for the flex plans. Bushwick around Starr Street is all street murals, artist studios and coffee roasters, with late-night bars clustered toward Jefferson Street. L Train Vintage is a 3-minute walk, Bossa Nova Civic Club about 4 minutes, and Maria Hernandez Park roughly 9. The L runs from Jefferson St and DeKalb Av, and the J/M/Z stop at Myrtle Av; Knickerbocker Av station is an 8-minute walk.

Solid management, responsive by message, and maintenance requests get handled within a day or two. The neighborhood is lively at night, which I like. The block has a lot of character and the apartment has held up well.

East-facing two-bedroom gets great morning light. Kitchen has a gas range and dishwasher, both work well. Leasing was quick and clear about every fee. L Train Vintage around the corner is a dangerous habit.

My dog and I moved in last fall. The pet-friendly policy was easy to work with and there are plenty of places to walk him nearby. The storage cage in the basement holds my bike and winter stuff, which frees up a lot of space upstairs.

Apartment is nice and the renovation is solid, but it's a walk-up and carrying groceries to the third floor gets old. Heat was reliable all winter. Bushwick location is great if you like being near bars and coffee.

The super lives in the building and it shows. A leaky shower valve was fixed the same afternoon I reported it. Love that the place used to be a knitting mill, it gives the whole building character you don't get in new construction.

Good building with only six apartments, so you get to know your neighbors. The package lockers mean I stopped losing deliveries. Only real downside is the laundry room gets busy on Sunday mornings, so I've learned to go on weeknights.

I work from home three days a week and the office nook in my flex one-bedroom is the reason I signed. It fits a full desk and a monitor, and I can close the bedroom door at night and forget about work. The white oak floors still look new.
