About the property
Stockholm Street is a 1911 walk-up at 1843 Stockholm St in Ridgewood, Queens, part of one of the neighborhood's landmarked yellow-brick rows. It is a small building, three stories and 6 apartments, with no elevator or doorman.
Instead it offers a laundry room, smart package lockers, a bike storage room, private storage cages and a virtual doorman intercom. Cats and dogs are welcome. The homes lean into the prewar character rather than covering it up. Original hardwood floors, exposed brick, tall windows and subway-tile baths run through every apartment, and most keep a decorative fireplace mantel. Kitchens have gas ranges and dishwashers, and ceiling fans are standard. One-bedrooms of 535 to 620 square feet line the west side, and two-bedrooms of 735 to 855 square feet face east. Ridgewood is a neighborhood of landmarked rowhouses, Fresh Pond Road shops and Myrtle Avenue, where new wine bars sit beside long-running German delis. Gottscheer Hall is a 4-minute walk, Grimaldi Bakery and Rosemary's Playground are 5 minutes, and Baker's Dozen Bagels is 6. The M stops at Forest Av, a 5-minute walk, with Seneca Av about 10 minutes and the L at Myrtle-Wyckoff Avs within reach.

Kitchen is on the smaller side, but the gas range and dishwasher make it work. Moving my dog in was easy and the leasing team was clear about the pet rules. Ridgewood is a great neighborhood for long walks.

West-facing one-bedroom and the afternoon light on the brick is gorgeous. I store my bike downstairs and use the storage cage for winter clothes. Gottscheer Hall is four minutes away and has become my Friday spot.

Lovely apartment with great character. Old buildings have old building quirks, and a couple of the tall windows let in a draft in January. Management sent someone to seal them, which helped, but it took a few weeks to schedule.

Small building, only six apartments, so you actually know your neighbors' names. The package lockers work well and I have never had a delivery go missing. Grimaldi Bakery around the corner is a dangerous habit.

Top-floor two-bedroom with lots of space. The M at Forest Av gets me to work without fuss. The two flights of stairs are fine, though I'd love an elevator on moving day. Laundry room in the building is a big help.

I had been hunting for a real prewar apartment that wasn't falling apart, and this is it. The brick wall and the fireplace mantel make the living room. Hardwood floors are original and someone clearly took care of them. The block itself is beautiful.
