About the neighborhood
Blocks of landmarked yellow-brick rowhouses, Fresh Pond Road shops and Myrtle Avenue wine bars beside decades-old German delis and halls.
Ridgewood sits on the Queens side of the Brooklyn border, just east of Bushwick, and its housing is its signature: long rows of tan and yellow brick rowhouses built in the early 1900s, many with iron stoops and bowed fronts.
Several historic districts protect them, including Stockholm Street, one of the few blocks in the city still paved in brick. Corbel & Stoop's buildings here are the walk-ups Stockholm Street and Woodbine Flats and Fresh Pond Courts, a high-rise on Fresh Pond Road.
Myrtle Avenue is the main shopping street, a long, busy strip of chain stores, bakeries and newer wine bars and restaurants. Fresh Pond Road adds grocers, delis and local shops. Gottscheer Hall, a 4-minute walk, is an old-school beer hall serving German food, Grimaldi Bakery is 5 minutes away and Baker's Dozen Bagels is about 6 minutes on foot. Aunt Ginny's, around 6 minutes away, is a neighborhood bar.
The Vander Ende-Onderdonk House on Flushing Avenue, a Dutch colonial farmhouse dating to the 1700s, hosts events and a small museum.
Rosemary's Playground, a 5-minute walk, is the nearest green space. Highland Park, just to the south on the Brooklyn border, has hilltop lawns, the Ridgewood Reservoir and walking trails. Forest Park, a short ride east, offers miles of wooded trails, a carousel and a golf course. The leafy residential blocks themselves make for good walking, especially along the landmarked rows near Woodbine and Stockholm Streets.
The M runs along the elevated line with stops at Forest Av, about 5 minutes on foot, Fresh Pond Rd and Seneca Av, continuing through Brooklyn to Midtown along Sixth Avenue. The L at Myrtle-Wyckoff Avs runs to Williamsburg and 14th Street. Buses on Myrtle Avenue and Fresh Pond Road connect to the rest of Queens, and the Jackie Robinson Parkway is nearby by car.
