About the neighborhood
One L stop from Manhattan, Williamsburg pairs Bedford Avenue shops and a deep restaurant and music scene with parks along the East River.
Williamsburg runs along the East River from McCarren Park down past the Williamsburg Bridge, and few Brooklyn neighborhoods are as close to Manhattan: the L crosses to 14th Street in a single stop.
The housing mix ranges from converted warehouses and classic walk-ups to glassy towers along Kent Avenue. Corbel & Stoop has three buildings here, the walk-ups South Second and The Eighth and the high-rise The Kent on North 5th Street, a block from the waterfront.
Bedford Avenue is the spine of the neighborhood, lined with shops, cafés and bookstores, with more boutiques and restaurants on Wythe Avenue, Berry Street and the numbered cross streets. Levain Bakery and Whole Foods Market are each about a minute's walk, Juliette Restaurant is 2 minutes away and Milk Bar is a 5-minute stroll. Hole In The Wall, 4 minutes on foot, is an easy stop for a drink. After dark, Music Hall of Williamsburg and Brooklyn Bowl book touring bands, and the Brooklyn Brewery taproom on North 11th Street pours its beer where it is brewed.
Domino Park stretches along the river on the site of the old sugar refinery, with an elevated walkway built from salvaged factory parts, a playground and lawns facing the Williamsburg Bridge. Marsha P. Johnson State Park, just north, has open lawns and skyline views. McCarren Park, a 9-minute walk, has ball fields, a running track and a large outdoor public pool that opens each summer.
The L at Bedford Av, about 4 minutes away, reaches Union Square in roughly 10 minutes. The J/M/Z stop at Marcy Av by the bridge, the G runs from Metropolitan Av, around 10 minutes on foot, and the NYC Ferry leaves from North 6th Street for Midtown and Wall Street. The Williamsburg Bridge has a dedicated bike and pedestrian path to the Lower East Side, and the Kent Avenue bike lane follows the waterfront.
